Cinnamon Roll Mug Cake is a warm, gooey, single-serving dessert that captures all the flavor of a cinnamon roll without the fuss of kneading or baking. It’s quick, delicious, and ready in just minutes — no oven required

Ingredients

Scale

For the Cake:

  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour

  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar

  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder

  • 1/8 teaspoon ground cinnamon

  • Pinch of salt

  • 2 tablespoons milk

  • 1 tablespoon melted butter (or neutral oil)

  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract

For the Cinnamon Swirl:

  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar

  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon

  • 1/2 teaspoon melted butter

For the Glaze:

  • 2 tablespoons powdered sugar

  • 1/2 teaspoon milk

  • Drop of vanilla extract (optional)

Instructions

1. Make the Batter:

In a microwave-safe mug (at least 10 oz), mix the flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt. Stir in the milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract until smooth.

2. Add the Cinnamon Swirl:

In a small bowl, mix together brown sugar, cinnamon, and melted butter. Drop the mixture into the center of the batter in the mug and swirl it gently with a toothpick or fork.

3. Microwave the Cake:

Microwave on high for 1 minute to 1 minute 20 seconds, or until the cake is set and a toothpick inserted comes out mostly clean. (Microwave times vary — don’t overcook!)

4. Make the Glaze:

While the cake is cooling for a minute, mix the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla for the glaze. Drizzle over the warm mug cake.

Serving Suggestions:

  • Best enjoyed warm straight from the mug

  • Top with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for an extra treat

  • Sprinkle a dash of cinnamon or nutmeg over the glaze

Notes

Pro Tips:

  • Use a tall mug to avoid overflowing

  • Swirl the cinnamon mixture gently so it doesn’t sink

  • Adjust sweetness to your taste — you can reduce sugar if needed

Common Mistakes to Avoid:

  • Overmixing the batter – can make the cake tough

  • Overcooking – microwaving too long will dry it out

  • Using a small mug – the cake will puff up and spill over

Storage Instructions:

  • Best eaten immediately

  • If needed, cover and store at room temperature for a few hours, then reheat in the microwave for 10–15 seconds

  • Not ideal for long-term storage or freezing
